Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse
Chapter 93: Ninety-three Chapter: Taking Shelter from the RainThe group was now leaving the desolate path and had entered the main road. They had officially left H City behind. To reach S City, they would still have to cross through two provinces and cities.
After leaving the small road, they reached the border of D province.
Initially, they traveled on a highway at the outskirts of the suburbs, which was relatively good, with a broad road surface. On either side were some low houses, and occasionally they could see a few car motels clustered together, as well as some restaurants catering to drivers.
Of course, these services were only available before the Apocalypse.
Su Xiangzhe had taken over the driving, taking into consideration Lu Hao’s terrible sense of direction. No one in their group had been to D province before, so they could only rely on paper maps and the road signs on the sides of the roads.
Su Xiangzhe had just rested in the “Space” for most of the day and was now very alert.
Gradually, more buildings started to appear on both sides of the road, and the road conditions got worse.
As darkness began to fall, ominous black clouds loomed in the not-too-distant sky, and Su Jin suddenly remembered something she had overlooked.
“Attention to the two vehicles behind, we need to find a safe place to spend the night. It’s going to rain soon. It’s best not to get rained on. Please respond if you hear this,” she said.
“Received, girl,” came one reply.“Received, little sister,” another responded.
The two vehicles did not ask for specifics, as the appearance of the sky was frightening enough as it was.
Su Jin was right; they needed to find a place to settle in first. But why couldn’t they get rained on?
Unless, there was something wrong with the rain?
Everyone wore solemn expressions as they watched the sky, wondering what would happen this time.
“Qiqi, can you find a relatively safe place around here?” Su Jin immediately asked.
Mao Qiqi nodded her head, but with varying degrees of red dots appearing on both sides of the surrounding area, she couldn’t pinpoint the safest place.
“Xiao Jin, take the road ahead and turn in, it looks like a warehouse,” Lu Hao suggested, not driving but paying close attention to the surroundings.
“Dad, let’s turn there first and let Qiqi feel the surroundings,” said Su Jin.
After explaining the situation to the two vehicles following them, the three cars successively turned right into the road leading to the warehouse ahead.
This was not just one warehouse but many warehouses that had come together to form a logistics park.
“How is it, Qiqi?”
“No living people, only some Zombies… not too many,” Mao Qiqi reported as she looked at the mental map in her mind, giving her a clear view of the logistics park.
Su Jin nodded and asked Su Xiangzhe to continue driving inside. They weren’t worried about the few Zombies present; what mattered most was to find shelter from the rain that was about to fall.
They chose a warehouse near the corner of the logistics park; its open doors provided a viewpoint overlooking the park. In case of any danger, they could immediately see outside.
The warehouse was enormous, so large that they even drove all three cars inside. Lu Hao and Xue Wanyi cleared the nearby Zombies before heading in as well.
Lin Cheng and Lin Xiuyuan closed the rolling door of the warehouse, and shortly thereafter, the sound of heavy rain hitting the warehouse could be heard.
“The rain is quite heavy. Good thing we found a place to take shelter,” Yin Chengtian remarked as he helped set up the folding beds Su Jin had brought out from her “Space.”
Su Jin had many folding beds in her “Space,” enough for everyone to have one without any issue. The emergency lights they had previously collected came in handy. For dinner, Lin Yunguo made dumplings with vegetables and meat grown in the “Space,” and even the flour for the dumpling wrappers was harvested from there.
Su Jin also laid out vinegar, chili oil, and other condiments, and to make the meal even more refreshing, she took out some cans of beer and drinks. The once cold and dreary warehouse now felt exceptionally cozy.
“Sister-in-law, why can’t we get rained on?” Shi Jin asked while eating. Getting wet in the rain was something they were used to with their constant training, but Su Jin had sounded very serious when she warned them earlier.
“It’s not clean; it might be contaminated,” Su Jin said. She hadn’t yet told Lu Hao’s friends about her rebirth, so she could only say that much.
The others didn’t suspect anything; in fact, they found Su Jin’s reasoning very sound—nothing was clean in the Apocalypse, not even the rainwater.
After dinner, they used the emergency lights to get a good look at the warehouse.
The warehouse wasn’t cluttered with many items, only some goods placed on shelves with wooden pallets.
However, to their disappointment, these items were of no use to them, being mostly liquid chemical materials.
Su Jin shook her head, seeing no immediate use for these items, but according to the principle of not wasting and having unlimited space, she collected all the goods, thinking they might be useful someday.
Guo Yang suggested that after sunrise, they should look through the other warehouses in the logistics park to see if there was anything useful. The rest of the group agreed. With two “Space Element Ability Users,” they weren’t concerned about running out of space.
