“Not good!”
Seeing Long Chen, Yue Zifeng, and Tang Wan-er surrounded by scaled lifeforms, the disciples of the Wind God Sea Pavilion instinctively rushed forward, weapons drawn and determination blazing in their eyes.
Feng Xinyue observed the scene with a faint smile. These prideful heavenly geniuses, who had once seen themselves as the pinnacle of existence, now regarded Long Chen and his companions as their leaders.
Even in a dangerous state, they charged forward without hesitation, showing that they were willing to fight to the death alongside Long Chen. To see those who had grown used to such luxury and entitlement reach this point was akin to witnessing a miracle.
Yet, Long Chen had achieved it. Feng Xinyue’s smile deepened as her admiration for his charisma solidified further.
“Calm down. Long Chen and Wan-er can handle it themselves,” said Feng Xinyue, stopping them from charging over.
“But…” one disciple stammered, his voice tinged with concern.
He wanted to argue that their opponents outnumbered them far too heavily. At this distance, they wouldn’t make it in time if things went wrong.
“Don’t worry,” reassured Xiao Yue. “Big brother Long Chen’s power and wits are unparalleled. He wouldn’t put himself in danger for nothing. Just now, he had a chance to get out but didn’t, which means he stayed there intentionally. You don’t know big brother Long Chen well yet, but you’ll soon realize that following him is the greatest fortune of your life.”
Xiao Yue was normally very cold toward others. Just like the majority of the Hidden Dragon warriors, she looked down on their arrogance. But seeing their fearless resolve to aid Long Chen despite the danger shifted her perspective. For the first time, Xiao Yue and the others didn’t feel like these fellows were that dislikeable. They also had a good side.
All eyes turned back to the battlefield, watching as the rank-one Divine Emperor went up to Long Chen. Bowing slightly, he pressed his right hand to his forehead in a ritualistic gesture.
“Thank you for your help. However, our Scarlet Scale Spirit race is not exactly allied with the human race. May I know what brings you here?” asked the rank-one Spirit Emperor cautiously.
Long Chen replied, “Throughout history, the human race and the Scarlet Scale Spirit race have had a tumultuous relationship. We’ve clashed countless times. But if I’m honest, we despise the devil race far more. That’s why we intervened and killed that devil. You don’t owe us anything, and we don’t owe you either.”
The rank-one Spirit Emperor eyed Long Chen, looking him up and down doubtingly. He couldn’t pinpoint what exactly Long Chen wanted.
“Spirit Guard, humans are extremely treacherous! We can’t trust them!” warned another Spirit Emperor of the Scarlet Scale Spirit race.
Long Chen shrugged. “Don’t be so nervous. I originally wanted to talk a bit longer, but if you don’t trust us, there’s no need for further discussion.”
Long Chen stepped closer to the rank-one Spirit Emperor and, to everyone’s shock, patted his shoulder.
Long Chen said, “Let’s leave it at that. Perhaps we’ll meet again someday.”
Gasps erupted from both sides. The Wind God Sea Pavilion disciples and the Scarlet Scale Spirit race stared in disbelief. They couldn’t believe that Long Chen would do this. It was too risky. If the other side suddenly attacked, wouldn’t Long Chen be instantly killed?
The rank-one Spirit Emperor froze. For some reason, he didn’t resist or dodge. If Long Chen had wanted to harm him, he would have been utterly defenseless. This realization left him momentarily stunned.
After patting his shoulder, Long Chen turned to leave. However, after just a few steps, the Spirit Emperor suddenly called out, his voice trembling. “It’s the Butterfly Spirit race! You bear their blessing?”
“Wow, not bad. You actually sensed it,” Long Chen remarked, turning back and smiling.
The rank-one Spirit Emperor immediately got on one knee, stunning everyone.
With a reverent tone, he said, “Respected human, you are an important guest of the Spirit race. Please forgive my ignorance and arrogance.”
The Wind God Sea Pavilion disciples’ jaws dropped. Their minds struggled to process what they were witnessing. They could only exchange glances and freeze.
“I am Chiling[1] Hai. May I know your great name?” asked the rank-one Spirit Emperor with utmost respect.
“Junior Long Chen greets Senior Chiling!” replied Long Chen.
Before Chiling Hai could ask, Long Chen had shared his connection to the Spirit race through a transmission of Spiritual Strength, revealing his ties to the Butterfly Spirit race, the Earth Spirit race, and others. He held nothing back.
“Good, good! So the pureblooded Spirit race still exists!” exclaimed Chiling Hai, extremely moved by this knowledge.
“Spirit Guard, the humans can’t be trusted!” warned one expert of the Scarlet Scale Spirit race again when he saw how emotional their leader was.
Chiling Hai’s expression darkened, and his voice boomed like thunder. “Silence! The mark of the Butterfly Spirit race is upon him, which means he is the most honored guest of the Spirit race. If he asked us to walk through fire, we would do so without hesitation. Show some respect!”
That expert directly froze, unable to retort.
Turning back to Long Chen, Chiling Hai said, “My apologies for their rudeness.”
Long Chen waved it off. “No need. In truth, I was profiting from your battle. I initially intended to wait for both sides to exhaust themselves before taking action. But when the Butterfly Spirit mark on my hand quivered, I knew I had to step in.
“If you hadn’t recognized the mark, then we would have just gone our own ways. But since you did, we are family. I will tell you this. I have received the favor of the Spirit race multiple times, so if the Scarlet Scale Spirit race is ever in trouble, as long as I am able, I definitely won’t stand idly by. Well, since we’re all rushing to our destination, I won’t keep you here any longer. Let us meet again!”
With that, Long Chen cupped his fists and turned to leave with Tang Wan-er and Yue Zifeng. Chiling Hai opened his mouth, as if to call out, but in the end, said nothing. He merely watched as Long Chen rejoined his group and departed.
He knew that Long Chen was definitely pissed. Except for him, none of his comrades realized what the blessing of the Butterfly Spirit race signified. It was a big dishonor.
Once the Wind God Sea Pavilion’s experts were out of sight, Chiling Hai sighed deeply.
Chiling Hai instructed, “Activate the altar. Use the Spirit Blood secret art to inform all our allies of Long Chen.”
“What? Is that really necessary?” questioned the other Spirit Emperor.
“Shut your mouth! Just do as I say!” roared Chiling Hai, his voice echoing through the air.
1. All the Scarlet Scale Spirit race’s experts are surnamed Chiling—”Scarlet Spirit”. While the Spirit race has many branches, those with scarlet blood, scales, hair, and other similar features use the “Chiling” surname. ☜
