Book 2: Chapter 74: Zhang Xuan's SuggestionsVol 2 Ch 74: Zhang Xuan's Suggestions
“Hall Master Yue speaks most wisely!” Han Qianchou nodded.
The Wanchang Sect was renowned for being the most informed organization in the world. Since Hall Master Yue made such a claim, he must have absolute confidence. Reflecting on it carefully, it did seem logical.
That Zhang Xuan had appeared too coincidentally, precisely at the time when the Chaotic Fate Practitioner emerged. The location wasn’t random either. It was hard to believe there wasn’t some mastermind behind the scenes orchestrating everything.
“Guards, drag them out and execute them by slow slicing! Exterminate their nine generations!” Han Qianchou waved his hand dismissively.
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
A group of Golden Guards charged in, grabbing the two individuals and dragging them out.
“No… Your Majesty, spare us! Have mercy, Your Majesty!”
The cries of Feng Jin and his companion echoed, their terror palpable as one of them soiled himself. Having been expelled from the Mo Family and knowing they couldn’t survive in White Roc City, they had sought refuge in Hanyuan City. By chance, they gained an audience with the emperor himself. They had thought that bringing news of the Chaotic Fate Practitioner would guarantee a meteoric rise in status and wealth. Yet, it had only led to their entire family being sentenced to extermination.
Had they known this would be the outcome, they would have preferred to stay in White Roc City. Even if they were despised and had no chance of redemption, at least they wouldn’t face execution. But now, regret was futile.Watching the two dragged off to their deaths, Zhang Xuan remained indifferent.
Opposing him back then and deliberately making things difficult—they should have anticipated the consequences.
“Well, I should be going. I still need to discuss matters with Vice Hall Master Ling.”
Uninterested in prolonging the conversation, Zhang Xuan rose to leave.
“Hall Master Yue, please wait! I have a request for Wanchang Sect's assistance...” Han Qianchou anxiously stepped forward to block him. The most important matter hadn’t yet been addressed!
“Oh?”
Zhang Xuan halted.
Han Qianchou gritted his teeth and explained, “It’s like this: Qianye and Mo Qing had some conflicts. In their duel, both perished. I fear this will provoke a frenzied retaliation from the Mo Dao Sect. I wonder if Hall Master Yue might have a way to save the Hanyuan Dynasty. I am willing to pay any price!”
“I thought Your Majesty wouldn’t bring this up.” Zhang Xuan sneered.
Han Qianchou froze. “Wanchang Sect is already aware?”
Zhang Xuan replied, “Such a large fluctuation of power within the imperial palace—do you think I wouldn’t know? Does Your Majesty truly believe that while you might have spies in my sect, I wouldn’t have any in your palace?”
“This...” Han Qianchou was visibly embarrassed. He dropped to one knee and clasped his fists in a plea. “Since Hall Master Yue already knows, I beg you for aid…”
Against the Mo Dao Sect, he knew he stood no chance. His only hope was the man before him.
“You think just a piece of Cold Nether Armor is enough to save the entire Hanyuan Dynasty? Emperor Qianchou, do you underestimate yourself, or overestimate me?”
With a cold snort, Zhang Xuan continued toward the exit.
“This…”
Han Qianchou gritted his teeth. “As long as Hall Master Yue can help me resolve this crisis, I will pay any price!”
Zhang Xuan paused, turning to glance at him. “I need Destiny Disks and pure Heaven’s Fate Energy for my cultivation—the more, the better. If you can provide enough, helping you would be no trouble.”
With someone so desperate, Zhang Xuan naturally intended to exploit the situation. If the Hanyuan Dynasty were to fall, it would be difficult to acquire anything from them later. Now, both his Library of Heaven’s Path and the expanding Xuan World demanded large amounts of Heaven’s Fate Energy for stability. This energy was invaluable—Zhang Xuan could never have too much of it.
“Destiny Disks?”
Han Qianye hesitated briefly, then his expression firmed. “Hall Master Yue, please wait. I will have them brought immediately!”
As long as there was a price to pay, it wasn’t an issue—what he feared most was being unable to spend his wealth.
Exiting the room, he issued orders to a Golden Guard, who swiftly departed. Before long, the guard returned to the teahouse with a large chest.
Han Qianchou opened it carefully, revealing a massive pile of Destiny Disks, numbering over a thousand.
“As a dynasty ruling over millions of square kilometers, we possess abundant resources, but our consumption is equally vast. These are the accumulations of over a thousand years—around 1,000 Destiny Disks in total. They are all yours, Hall Master Yue.”
With a grimace, Han Qianchou pushed the chest forward.
Destiny Disks were not only used for cultivation but were also frequently distributed as rewards. Thus, despite the dynasty’s vast size, its reserves were not substantial. These thousand disks truly represented the entirety of their accumulation.
“Hmm, this will suffice.”
Zhang Xuan nodded, placing his hand on the chest. In an instant, all the Destiny Disks vanished into his New World.
“This…”
Han Qianchou’s pupils contracted in shock.
A spatial artifact! Even he couldn’t afford one, as they were incredibly rare. For Hall Master Yue Longxiao to possess one only reinforced his immense wealth—clearly surpassing even that of a monarch.
“Since I’ve accepted your offering, I will naturally assist you in resolving this issue.”
Zhang Xuan looked at him calmly. “In truth, this matter, while it seems urgent, is not difficult to resolve.”
“I humbly ask for Hall Master Yue’s guidance!” Han Qianchou bowed deeply.
Zhang Xuan pondered briefly before speaking. “There are two steps. First, if the Mo Dao Sect sends experts to confront you, admit immediately that Mo Qing was killed under your orders. Do not make any denials, and the more arrogant your attitude, the better.”
“Huh?”
Han Qianchou staggered in disbelief.
You took my money and gave me such advice?
If he said that, wouldn’t they cut him in half on the spot?
While he was reeling from the suggestion, Zhang Xuan continued, “Don’t panic. I wouldn’t suggest this without reason! Mo Qing died in the imperial palace with so many witnesses. Even if you deny it, the truth can’t be hidden. Instead of going through the trouble of covering it up, it’s better to own up to it outright.”
Han Qianchou remained silent.
What Zhang Xuan said made sense. If the Mo Dao Sect sent someone, it would mean they already knew the truth. Denials would only invite further investigation. Survivors like Yu Longqing and Sun Lianxiang would surely reveal the details eventually. Owning up might indeed prevent greater trouble.
“I understand admitting it directly. But why the arrogance?” Han Qianchou asked.
Zhang Xuan smirked. “It’s simple—keep them guessing about your hidden cards. That way, even if they want to kill you, they’ll hesitate and seek confirmation. Being in unfamiliar territory like Hanyuan City, the only way for them to find accurate information would be through the Wanchang Sect. And that gives me the opportunity to speak on your behalf.”
Han Qianchou suddenly understood. “I see… And the second step?”
“The second step is for me to explain things to them. I’ll reveal that Mo Qing’s death was part of a scheme by the Wanchang Sect against the Chaotic Fate Practitioner. This way, they’ll understand that killing you means provoking the Wanchang Sect and challenging its authority. While the Mo Dao Sect isn’t weak, I doubt they have the courage to defy us.”
Han Qianchou nodded.
Mo Dao Sect’s strongest, Mo Baiye, was a peak expert within the Zouyi Dynasty. But compared to the vast influence of the Wanchang Sect, he was insignificant—utterly outclassed.
After some thought, Han Qianchou asked cautiously, “If we claim that Zhang Xuan is a powerful figure in disguise, seeking to lure out the Chaotic Fate Practitioner, and that Mo Qing discovered this secret, forcing us to kill him to maintain confidentiality… does this sound reasonable? It might even turn their anger into gratitude.”
Zhang Xuan nodded. “Precisely! However, you can’t say that Zhang Xuan is a powerful figure—it must come from me as a subtle hint. Otherwise, it would only invite suspicion.”
“That makes sense…” Han Qianchou agreed.
His status didn’t justify knowing such secrets, but a statement from the Wanchang Sect’s branch leader would carry weight.
Even so, his safety now depended entirely on Zhang Xuan. If Zhang Xuan didn’t speak on his behalf, he would be doomed.
“I understand Your Majesty’s concerns…” Zhang Xuan chuckled. “But think about it—what good would your death do me? Especially after such a generous offering. Why wouldn’t I help?”
Han Qianchou nodded.
Although the Hanyuan royal family had clashed with the Wanchang Sect’s branch in the past, their overall relations had been amicable. Moreover, he had never personally offended Zhang Xuan.
“I don’t doubt Hall Master Yue. It’s just that the situation feels beyond my control…” Han Qianchou sighed.
Knowing this still wasn’t enough to fully convince him, Zhang Xuan paused, then offered another reassurance. “How about this? If the Mo Dao Sect truly sends someone to investigate, admit to ordering the killing, but then shift the blame onto me. Say that it was at my instruction. To protect myself, I would have no choice but to explain the situation clearly.”
“Thank you, Hall Master Yue, for your understanding…” Han Qianchou finally let out a sigh of relief.
With this promise, he felt much more secure. Even if the Mo Dao Sect was formidable, they wouldn’t recklessly kill him—a monarch of a dynasty—without first confirming the truth.
“Good.”
Zhang Xuan resumed his exit. “Since the matter is resolved, I’ll be taking my leave.”
“Hall Master Yue, take care! Commander Hu, see our guest out!”
Han Qianchou gestured with a wave of his hand.
The Golden Guard who had retrieved the Destiny Disks followed Zhang Xuan out, escorting him out of the palace. Soon, Commander Hu returned to the tea hall and bowed deeply. “Your Majesty, the guest has been sent off.”
“Good.”
Han Qianchou nodded, his fingers lightly tapping the tea table. After a moment of contemplation, he looked up and spoke. “I recall that Hall Master Yue is unmarried but has a few disciples he deeply cares for?”
“Our intelligence says the same,” Commander Hu confirmed with a nod.
Han Qianchou’s eyes glinted coldly. “Retrieve the Cold Bone Jade Poison I had prepared earlier. Use the Wanchang Sect’s covert agents to find a way to administer it to his disciples. If he dares to speak falsely or go back on his word… I’ll make sure his disciples accompany him to the grave.”
“Yes!” Commander Hu clasped his fists and quickly left the hall.
